Driving trucks or semi trucks is not an easy job. It requires good experience traing and good health.

Big vehicles are a potential threat to drivers even when they are physically fit and have detail knowledge about huge vehicles. But, despite the increasing number of road accidents and warning by the DOT people apply for professional commercial driver's license even if they have underlying medical problems or other disabilities.

In Texas, such commercial licenses are issued by Texas DPS. One can also scour the internet for commercial license forms and other details. Basic documents required by the department include proof of residency, age proof, medical certificate; social security number proof, etc.

Many of these drivers may have underlying health problems such as heart disorders, hypertension, etc. Such medical conditions can be a cause for fatal truck accidents and wrongful death lawsuits. Such medically unfit drivers should not hide their medical condition to procure a license that can cost many lives including their own.

Driver fatigue is also another prime reason for semi truck accidents. Being tired and driving has the same effect as drunken driving. Lack of proper sleep, driving on empty stomach or pressure from truck companies and financial pressures can also lead to serious fatal consequences.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations require truckers to strictly follow safety norms to avoid accidents.

More than 50,000 people lose their lives in semi truck accidents every year. But, mercifully there are many reputed semi truck accident lawyers and firms that are dedicated to assisting victims seeking compensation and justice.

Greg Baumgartner is a Houston truck accident attorney.
